Society is the cohesive unit because its members are in the same language, values, knowledge, and beliefs. In short the society is unified by its members’ way of life and the fact that they tend to think of themselves as belonging to the same group. Society ranges from a complex organization like “American Society” to a small unit such as an army company or a ship’s crew.
There need not be political boundaries to set it off from other societies we tend to thinking terms of nation-states , a society can exists below the national level or across national boundaries. For example, we might speak of Chinese society as existing within many separate political units.
